REID, Melville James, Sto 1c, V69990, RCNVR, died - 07 Aug 1944, HMCS KOKANEE - Son of James B. Reid and Matilda Reid, of Vancouver, BC.
Stoker 1st Class M.J. Reid died due to drowning at Millers Lake, Nova Scotia.
Excerpt from BOI: "According to a letter received from one of the lads in the boat by the Reid Fmaily it woudl appear that the four boys went out in a boat, and as it was a warm day they decided to go for a swim. Melville Reid appeared to get into difficultly, and one of them went to his assistance. However, the boat was drifting further away, and the lad could not hold him any longer. Either he had to let Reid go or go down with him, so he let go. He went ashore, and reported the incident, and the body was recovered four hours later."
Stoker Melville Reid is buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Burnaby, BC.
