HEATHORN, Arthur John, Leading Stoker, 21588, RCN, MPK - 24 Sep 1942, HMS SOMALI - Son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert D. Heathorn, Vancouver, BC.

 

Leading Stoker Arthur John Heathorn son of Capt. H. D. Heathorn, 1060 Granville of No. 13 Firehall. Stoker Heathorn was born in Vancouver and attended King Edward High School and Vancouver Technical. He enlisted on April 27, 1939 in Vancouver, British Columbia, two months before outbreak of the war. He went overseas early in the war on the destroyer, HMCS RESTIGOUCHE , was at Bayonne during evacuation of France and helped take survivors off the destroyer, HMCS FRASER. Stoker Heathorn had been home on leave twice, and was due to return on leave this month. The official casualty list from Ottawa today, states that Stoker Heathorn was serving on the British Tribal class destroyer, HMS SOMALI recently lost due to enemy action.
