MCCAPPIN, James Henry, Stoker PO, V22284, RCNVR, MPK - 31 Dec 1942, HMCS LA MALBAIE - Son of Maggie McCappin, of Belfast, Northern Ireland; husband of Mary A. McCappin, of Toronto, ON.

 

Petty Officer Stoker J. H. McCappin was killed when he was a passenger in a small water taxi, which collided with a harbour craft in St. John's Harbour, Newfoundland. As a result of the impact he was thrown into the water and drowned. Although an extensive search and dragging was made in the vicinity his body was never recovered.

HMCS EYEBRIGHT - Served in EYEBRIGHT 01 Dec 1940 - 22 Jan 1942 as a Sto 1c and A/L/Sto, RCNVR. Rated A/L/Sto 01 Jan 1941

HMCS LA MALBAIE - Drafted to LA MALBAIE 14 Apr 1942 as an A/L/Sto, RCNVR.  Rated A/Sto PO 15 Apr 1942
