In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CAMPBELL, Murdock Duncan (Murgie) - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Murdock Duncan “Murgie” Campbell on December 27th 2021, at his family home. Murgie was born in New Waterford on November 27th, 1943, to the late Gordon and Marie (Ryan) Campbell.
Murgie began his career in the Navy at an early age, taking him all over the world. He then moved back home to start his family and began his welding career. He was an active member of the UA of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 682 for more than 50 years. Murgie was an excellent and well-respected tradesman who took pride in his work. He was a mentor to many and trained many young aspiring welders.
Murgie was very involved in his community. He had a strong faith and was a member of St. Leonard’s Parish Church, the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Unit 217, and the New Waterford’s Seniors’ and Pensioners’ Club.
He cherished life and enjoyed every day to the fullest. He had a passion for cars; you could always find him driving one of his many around the island or to the Casino every Sunday for breakfast with Patsy. He was an avid tarabish and poker player and loved dancing up a storm whenever music would play.
He was a generous man and had a passion for helping people. His kindness was felt by many. He was known as the person to call for anything you needed, whether it be a drive or to fix your furnace. He asked for so little but gave so very much.
Anyone who knew Murgie, knew he was a man of many talents. He was an exceptional baker and was well known by many for delivering his delicious homemade baked goods. Murgie was truly a man like no other and will be missed beyond words.
Murgie will be deeply missed by his beloved partner, Patsy Bailey; three sons, Bobby (Marlene); Billy; Sheldon (Debbie); and daughter Denise. Stepchildren, Francis (Melinda) and Deanna (Adrian). He is survived and will be missed dearly by brothers, Jeremine (Makeo); Sheldon (Linda); and Gordie (Theresa); sisters, Frances Ann (Sid) and Colleen (Gerry); grandchildren, Alisha, Caitlyn, Brendan, Callie, Alex, Savannah, and Brooke; step-grandchildren, Tyler and Brittni; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Caleb, Hunter, Parker, Adalyn, and Nathaniel; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his fur-buddy, “Buddy.”
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Doreen Harper and the mother of his children, Dianne Campbell.
Cremation has taken place. Due to recent restrictions, a private funeral service for the family will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the IWK Health Centre.
