NICKERSON, Osborne Charles, AB, A4429, RCNR, Died: 06 Dec 1944, HMCS VILLE DE QUEBEC - Son of Walter and Matilda Nickerson, Clyde Riber, Shelburne Co., Nova Scotia
Osborne Charles Nickerson was one of nine children of Walter and Matilda Nickerson, of Clyde River, Shelburne Co., of NS. Prior to his enlistment he was a fisherman for six years. He first served on HMCS SOREL between August 20, 1941 and April 15, 1942 before transfer to HMCS NIOBE on April 16, to November 23, 1942. He was drafted to HMCS VILLE DE QUEBEC November 24, 1942 where he served until his death from drowning on December 6, 1943. On the night of December 6, 1944 Able Seaman Nickerson was last seen alive about 9:00 pm proceeding to a liberty boast which was returning ratings to their ship from shore leave. As he was not amongst those who returned in the craft it is believed, as it was a very dark night, that he fell into the harbour basin and was accidentally drowned. His body was recovered at Milford Haven, Pembroke Co., Wales, on January 3, 1945.
AB Nickerson is buried n the Milford Haven Cemetery, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
