DURNFORD, Jack Douglas - age 75, passed away from cancer peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at home in Dartmouth. Born in Hespler, Ontario, he was a son of the late George & Molly (Darwen) Durnford. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy for twelve years where he proudly sailed on the BONAVENTURE. Following his naval service, he was employed at HMC Dockyard as a sonar tech until retirement. Some of his true passions were years spent with the Dartmouth Ringette Association, Waverley Ground Search and Rescue, and as a friend of Sam. He loved the outdoors, especially in Newfoundland where he spent much time hunting and fishing. He was very creative and passed on his skills to his children and grandchildren; Red Green would be proud. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Sarah, daughters Gail & Jeff (Houser), Colleen & Roger (Stacey), and Joy & Donovan (Zozuk), grandchildren Aaron & Wageesha, Curtis, Kyle, Cory, Sarah, and Fischer, brother Bob (Jan)- Ontario, and sister Judy- B.C. He is pre-deceased by his sister Joyce. Funeral service and reception will be held at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Pleasant St., Dartmouth, Friday, Dec 27, 2013 at 11am. Rev Frances Drolet-Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the S.P.C.A, Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation, or St. Alban's. Special thank you to the Medical and Radiation Oncology Department, Dartmouth General Hospital Emergency Department, Palliative and Continuing Care, Prince Andrew High School, and family & friends for their support during this difficult time.
