In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WHITE, John Fraser - With tremendous grief, we announce the peaceful passing of Fraser in Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Fraser joined the Lord on January 11, 2022, with his family by his side. Fraser was born in New Victoria on May 26, 1936, to Fraser and Anne (MacNeil) White. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Christina (MacLean); daughter, Cathy MacPherson (Colin), Halifax; son, Paul (Ann Marie), Truro; son, Danny (Joanna), Halifax; four grandchildren who brought him much joy, York, Eric, Fraser, Jenna; and great-grandchildren, Nate, Emmy and John who he adored. Fraser also leaves behind his sisters, Noreen MacDonald (Dannie), Anne MacDonald (Duncan), Geraldine Cordon (Barry); brother, Michael Cusack (Marilyn); as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including life-long friend Malkie Nemis. Having lost his father at a very young age, he was forever grateful for the love and support from his uncles, Bob, Blay, Jimmy and Joe. Besides his parents, Fraser was predeceased by brothers, York and Frank; and step-father, Gerald Cusack. Fraser was a longtime member of St. Alphonsus, Victoria Mines and more recently a member of St. Leonard’s Parish, New Waterford. When we think of Dad, we will remember a man who enjoyed life, be it playing hockey with the New Victoria Eagles, skating with friends or spending some quiet time alone listening to classical music. Dad was an avid reader and loved to tell stories. With one sentence he could summarize with elegance any situation he encountered. Dad taught us many things, including a solid work ethic, to be kind, humble, forgiving, faithful, compassionate and courageous. Fraser was proud to be in the first graduating class of the University Naval Training Divisions, Norfolk, Virginia, as a Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reservist. After working in 16 Colliery for a short time, he dedicated his life to education. Fraser graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1959, then later achieved his Master of Education. He felt blessed to work with such wonderful teachers and colleagues through his career, especially the staff at New Victoria School where for more than 30 years he mentored young and old. We are all privileged to have had Fraser in our lives. We would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Parkland at the Lakes and Harbourstone Enhanced Care. Memorial donations in Dad’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A celebration of life and funeral mass will be held at a later date to be announced.
