In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
FRANCHE, Camille Joseph - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Camille Joseph Franche. He peacefully went to be with his wife, Dorothy on January 17, 2022.
No amount of words can sum up who Camille was or the impact he had on those around him. Many knew Camille as "Grandad" whether they were related or not. After service in the Canadian Navy, decades with the Canadian Postal Office and many other jobs, Camille retired in 1995 to become a full-time jack of all trades.
He loved telling stories of his time sailing, driving oil trucks, road trips, and growing up in Quebec with his family. He spoke both French and English but would always say he was not French because his mother was Austrian. Whenever he would drive to Halifax, he would reminisce about the time he worked painting the bridge. We all learned so much from Grandad from not wasting food to which walls hold the house up, he had a wealth of knowledge.
In his younger days, he spent time picking blueberries, fishing, and being outside. As he got older, he spent even more time outdoors whether it was cutting wood or delivering flyers. When it was too cold, he loved being inside playing cards, doing puzzles and playing solitaire on his laptop.
Many times, Grandad would be "resting his eyes" while lying on the couch watching hockey, baseball, and wrestling, but each and every day, he either attended Catholic mass in person or from the comfort of his recliner.
Grandad always loved having animals around for company and to keep his chair warm. He would always stop to pet any random dog, even after several bit him. In the last few years, he was often seen with his great grandson, Zandar, by his side. We are sure he will be greatly missed by everyone who had the opportunity to meet him.
Camille was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Josey. As well as his mother, father, sister, four brothers and his granddaughter, Deborah, and many neighbours and friends from Caledonia Road.
He is survived by his older sister Therese, his children and their partners Jean (Jim), Paulette, Dianne (Steve), David (Vicki). His grandchildren and their partners Derrick, Darlene (David), Amanda (Jonathan), Darrell (Andrea), Mark, Rachelle, and Jessica. His great grandchildren Jayde (Philip), Taylor, Owen, Zandar, David, Kai, Chloe, and Jasmine. Plus, many others that may not be blood but were family to him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
Grandad never gave an opinion or advice but would always be there no matter the outcome. One last thing from Grandad;
"It's not cold out, it's the wind." (arbourmemorial.ca)
