Ralph Chilton

Born: 1923, Vermillion, Alberta

 

Died: 2022, Victoria, British Columbia

 

CHILTON, Ralph - Dad was born in Vermillion, Alberta to Marion and Frank Chilton, with a family comprised of brothers; Robert, Gordon and half-brother Frank. As Dad's Father was a United Church Minister, the family moved throughout B.C. every few years. Dad served in the Canadian Navy during WWII, sailing on a variety of Frigates in the Atlantic. While Dad was stationed in the East, he met his future wife, Ruth. They were married in Fort Erie, June 1944. Mum and Dad moved West to Vancouver and then finally settling in Victoria. Dad worked for Spencer's Dept. Store briefly and then moved into a Career at the Esquimalt Dockyard as an Electronics Technician/Estimator. Dad retired in 1980. Dad and Mum enjoyed the retirement years, moving to Comox for a few years and then eventually returning to Victoria. Ruth/Mum unfortunately Passed in 2001. A number of years later Dad was fortunate to meet Bernie and they enjoyed a few years together before her Passing. Dad sold his Townhouse and moved into Berwick Royal Oak, where he enjoyed 7 wonderful years. Unfortunately, Dad had a fall early October and broke his hip, which led to an extensive stay in the Hospital followed with a move into Broadmead Lodge due to his declining health. The Family would like to thank the wonderful Staff at Berwick Royal Oak and at Broadmead Lodge B1. Also to thank are the wonderful Care Workers of VGH 5S. Dad was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, uncle and friend to many. Dad had a quick wit with always a sparkle in his eyes. Dad excelled at many Sports in his younger years and enjoyed Curling, Lawn Bowling, Fishing and watching Hockey. Fifth Wheeling and some Travel afar filled his years. Animals were his love, especially Dogs! Ralph leaves his three Children Rod (Rhoda), Marion (Bob), Jane (Jonathan), along with three Grandchildren Mark (Jen), Andrew (Kathryn), Alexa (Gabe), one Great Granddaughter Claire, and his dear friend Dave Whitehead. May God Bless, We will miss you! Memorial Service March 26 10:30 am First Memorial Royal Oak.
