In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
COLE, Lawrence (Larry) - was born in West Tatamagouche, March 24, 1941 and passed away January 29, 2022 in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche. Larry was raised by his grandparents, Henry and Ruth Cole and finished his education in Tatamagouche. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1960 and received his basic training at CFB Cornwallis. He enrolled in the Medical Branch of the RCN and Chief Cole had extensive postings during his career. Chief Cole’s first trade course was at Esquimalt, B.C. and his subsequent postings were long and impressive and included time aboard Her Majesty’s Canadian Ships, HMCS HALIFAX, HMCS QU'APPELLE, HMCS NIPIGON as well as postings at Canadian Forces Hospital in Halifax, the Regional Medical Equipment Depot in Debert, the National Defense Medical Centre in Ottawa, Central Medical Equipment Depot in Petawawa, Canadian Forces Base, Comox, B.C. and Royal Canadian Medical School at CFB Borden. While at CFB Comox, Chief Cole flew Air Evac for several years and was also a Medical Assistant on HMCS QUADRA, the Sea Cadet Training Centre and subsequently worked at sea on both the east and west coasts. He also had temporary duty in Bermuda on HMCS ATHABASKAN and HMCS ASSINIBOINE. While in the Navy, Chief Cole visited exotic places such as Panama, Ecuador, Peru and the Galapagos Islands. After retirement, he spent several years as a nursing supervisor at Sunset Adult Residential Centre in Pugwash and continued to work with the Greenwood Air Cadet Summer Training Centre as a Medical Assistant, retiring in 2005. He was also and avid reader and sports fan, both playing and watching. Surviving are his best friend and personal care giver, Hazel; son, Allen, Malagash; daughter, Sue, Tatamagouche; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; half-siblings, Howard, Tom, MaryJane, Ruth and many cousins; special aunt, Jennie Cole-Perkins. He was predeceased by daughters, Heather and Janet; his mother, Helen Cole; grandparents, Henry and Ruth Cole. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche. Cremation has taken place with no visitation or funeral service to be held. Memorial donations can be made to Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
