In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
FRANCIS, David George - To our great sorrow we announce the passing of our father at home on February 11, 2022 in Halifax, with family by his side. Born in Vancouver, B.C. on August 6, 1935 to David Morgan Hollis Francis (1914-1978) and Olive Daune (Goode) Francis (1914-1999). He was predeceased by his sisters, Joan, Daune and Mary. Dad will be missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Winnifred Theresa (Cormier) Francis and his children, Catherine, St. Catharines, Ont.; David (Betty), Carrollton, Tex.; James, Victoria, B.C.; Robert, Halifax; Kenneth (Kim), Victoria, B.C.; Susan (Dave), Windsor, Ont.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Dad began his career in the RCN at the very bottom in 1952, and earned a Commission as an Officer in 1964. He was a Graduate of The Royal Engineering College Class at Manadon (1970) in Plymouth, UK. He proudly and joyfully served on both coasts on many HMC Ships including MARGAREE, RESTIGOUCHE, FRASER, PROVIDER and MACKENZIE to name a few. The pinnacle of his career was as the sole Main Propulsion Officer of the hydrofoil HMCS Bras D’Or. He finished his career as a staff officer at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. He then went on to serve In the Canadian Coast Guard in Ottawa, taking charge of the Ships Maintenance program. He enjoyed different hobbies including Scouting, model trains, camping, fishing and beer and wine making. He was very proud of his life’s accomplishments but his greatest joy was his family. He was a loving and generous soul who devoted every waking moment of his spare time to his family's happiness. A celebration of his life with family and friends will be held at a future date to be determined. (Saltwire Network 18 Feb 2022)
