They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
HORNBY, Lloyd Kempton, OS, V18423, RCNVR, MPK - 05 Aug 1942, HMCS ASSINIBOINE - Son of George and Ethel Hornby, of Timmins, ON.
OS Lloyd Hornby fell overboard off HMCS ASSINIBOINE in flat, calm seas and sank immediately. There was no known reason for why he fell. His body was not recovered. From Robert D'Aousts book Ultimate Sacrifice Vol 3 "Some said he had been sick and it was surmised that he had fainted near the rail and fell overboard. The crew recalls seeing him on deck at least the day before."
