In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
FISHBOURNE, Thomas John Wright - Thomas (Jack) John Wright Fishbourne passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2022, at the South Calgary Health Campus in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He was 80 years old. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Verley, father James, mother Violet, and brother James (Jim).
Born October 14, 1941, in Ottawa, Ontario, Jack spent much of his life in Calgary. His father a veteran of the Canadian Army, Jack spent time in the Canadian Navy and significantly more at Shell Canada, laying the foundation for a computerized future for one of the largest corporations in history. Starting with computers that filled a whole room, Jack would work with the information technology at Shell for over two decades.
Jack was defined by his love of travel, opera, golf, and skiing. His true passion was trains, from full-sized to models. Intricate layouts and model train hardware fill his home and he would light up to talk about some hard-to-find piece to fit his locomotive vision. His years were filled with travel and riding the rails in every possible continent. If Antarctica had trains, we know Jack would have flown there to try it. A kind and affable man, his friends and colleagues have spent the days since his passing sending condolences from around the world. He will be sorely missed.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, March 10, 2022, starting at 2:00p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers mourners are asked to donate in Jack's name to one of his favourite charities including Crohn's and Colitis Canada, the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank, and the Calgary Opera.
In living memory of Thomas Fishbourne, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area. (The Calgary Herald 08 Mar 2022)
