CATO, Donald Charles - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donald Charles Cato, loving husband of Marilyn (Lyn) Cato, announce his passing on Thursday March 3, 2022 in Saint John Regional Hospital. Don was born in Montreal, Que.,on June 8, 1947, the son of the late Kenneth and Clare (McAndrew) Cato. Don began his service in May 1963 with the Royal Montreal Regiment as a Signalman, he enlisted in the regular forces in 1971 as a Naval Signalman before transitioning to the administration branch. Serving on board several ships including the HMCS OTTAWA and HURON before transferring to NDHQ in Ottawa September 1980. In November 1981 Don joined the 1RCHA in Lahr, West Germany, spending time With C Battery in both the HQ & Signals as well as Maintenance. Upon his return to Canada, he joined the HMCS ATHABASKAN before his final posting to CFB Gagetown where he first joined the Military Police Detachment, then with the Infantry School Orderly Room. Don returned to Reserve Force status upon his retirement in 1991 where he served with the 1RNBR at the Carlton and York Armouries in Fredericton. Don was an avid online gamer and enjoyed reading, and most especially tinkering with computers. Don was a long-time member and leader in the Boy Scouts and the Lions Club International. His final years were spent as proud Kitty Dad to TJ and Najee. In addition to his wife of 50 years, Lyn, he is survived by his daughter, Juley (Brent) Clark; son, Heath Cato; grandchildren, Amber (Spencer), Jeremiah, Mackenzie (Kenzie) (Dylan); great-granddaughter, Ashen; brother, Bernard (Selina); and many nieces and nephews. Resting in Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., on Thursday, March 10th from 2-4 p.m. COVID-19 mask protocols must still be followed for the visitation.
