FOUGERE, Joseph Leonard - 81, Halifax, Leonard passed away July 10, 2006, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in West Arichat, he was a son of the late Joseph and Minnie (Babin) Fougere. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy on the high seas. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Fairview Branch 142, for 46 years. At the end of the Second World War, Leonard worked on the lake boats as an engineer. He retired from Camp Hill Hospital after 33 years. Beyond his service to our country, Leonard leaves a memory and legacy of his devotion to helping all those whose lives he touched. His unwavering willingness to help others and putting others before himself will always be remembered. He was a man of dignity and honour. He will be missed. Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Marie Hilda (Forrest); sons, Ron (Roberta Macorig) and their daughter Daniela; Michael (Leone Lewis) and their daughter Brianna; brother, Joseph Alexander "Francis" Fougere, Halifax; sisters, Loretta Bona, West Arichat; Estelle Clorey, West Arichat; Beatrice St. Laurent, Quebec, and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Wilfred, Walter, Alzear, Gus; sisters, Lena Hunter, Alice Forgeron. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Funeral mass will take place 10 a.m. Thursday in Blessed Mother Teresa Roman Catholic Church (formerly St. Stephen's), corner of Normandy Drive and Robie Street, Father Gilbert Bertrand, OMI officiating. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Family flowers only. A donation in Leonard's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the staff of 5th Floor, Unit A, Centennial Building, VG Site, QEII, for their level of care rendered during the past month.
