YOUNG, Hugh Allen - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Gramps, Hugh Allen Young, at the young age of 97 and a half. Hugh was born on October 23, 1924 in Edson, Alberta, to Leo Young and Viola Kipping. Throughout his life, Hugh worked at Can Car, Eaton's, the City of Thunder Bay, and Canadian National Railway. In 1943, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and set sail across the Atlantic, where he became a World War II veteran.

Gramps lived an incredibly full life and was lucky to see many different parts of Canada and the world. He enjoyed many hobbies, including: travelling, gambling, taking care of his yard, and visiting with the people that he loved, especially us and his special friends Al Niemi, Vic Voca, Ronnie (BC), Jo Taniwa (Terrace Bay) and Bev.

Gramps was incredibly smart and creative. If he ran into a problem, he would create or invent something to fix it. His inventions were genius!

Gramps was also great at dealing with people and was always happy to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. He was a great friend to his multitude of friends, and was always thinking of others.

Gramps was a dependable person to everyone who knew him. He was fiercely independent, and lived independently at home until very recently. Gramps drove himself everywhere, and he was a better driver than most others on the road!

We will all miss his loving and caring nature, his amazingly detailed stories, and his sometimes… colourful points of view on society and politics. These attributes made him an extremely fun person to be around.

The root of our family tree has passed and our patriarch is gone. Hugh will be immensely missed by his granddaughter, Jennifer, and her daughters, Hillary (Taylor), and Abby (Pat); his daughter, Debby (Ron); and his grandchildren, Jeff (Julie), Kevin, and Kim (Allan). Great grandchildren; Gregory and Rebecka, Evan (Breanna), Danielle (Jacob) and Aaron.

Cremation has taken place, upon his request. Internment in the family plot at Sunset Memorial Gardens will take place at a future date and a celebration of his life will take place at his home for one final “schnick” in his honour.

Thank you for your service, love, and laughs, Gramps.

You were the best, XO.
