In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
TREFRY, Walter Erven - 88, Murray Siding, passed away on February 15, 2022 at home. Born in Yarmouth on June 1, 1933, he was the son of the late, Roy and Viola (Riggs) Trefry.
Erven joined the Navy at a young age and served in the Korean War on the HMCS HAIDA. He also worked on the MV Bluenose car and passenger ferry between Yarmouth and Bar Harbor, Maine. He later retired from Camp Debert, working as a Civil Engineer. Erven played the guitar and banjo, he enjoyed bluegrass festivals, camping, travelling and being at the cottage on the Brule Shore. He also was an avid bowler right up until the Pandemic. Friday night tea parties were times he enjoyed with Claudia’s family as well as Sunday night suppers at Debbie and Harry’s. He was a Life Member of the Debert Legion Branch #106. Erven was well loved and indeed will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Surviving are his daughters, Debbie (Harry) Mantle, Lower Truro, Kim (Brian) Oickle, Kemptown; son, Greg (Sally) Trefry, Yarmouth; stepdaughter, Susan Fuller, Yarmouth; step sons, Steven (Noreen) Lane and Shannon Lane, both of Truro; grandchildren, Sondra Mantle (Ashley Weatherbee), Truro, Adam Mantle, Calgary, Nancy (Mike) Strong, Coldbrook, Kyle (Michelle) Trefry, Yarmouth; step grandchildren, Peter Awad, Benjamin Johnson, Ontario, Suzanne Lane, Jayme-Lynn Gloade both of Truro; also eight great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Doane, Yarmouth; brother, Doug (Verna) Trefry, Tusket; many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Erven was predeceased by the mother of his children Jacqueline (LeBlanc), wife Mary (Durkee); wife Darlene Roy; loving companion, Claudia Cavanaugh; brother, Richard Trefry.

Debert Legion Br. 106 will conduct a Tribute Service on Friday, March 18th beginning at 2pm followed by a Memorial Service with Cory Lunn officiating, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. (Colchester Community Funeral Home)
