In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
BALL, Donald - of Cole Harbour, and formerly of Chesterville Ont., passed away on March 20, 2022 at the age of 85. Don was born in Hull, Que., however he was raised and educated in Ontario. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 61 years, Ruth (Bishop); his daughters, Cheryl and Leigh Ann Giles (Katt Evans). Adored by his grandchildren, Katherine Bruce (Chris Lapierre), Stephanie Bruce and Jessica Cote (Matt). He also has six great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. "Chappie" will lovingly be remembered by his brothers, James (Dianne), Doug (Lorna), and Graham (Lori). He was predeceased by his daughter, Dawne Bruce; parents, Ralph and Jean Ball; siblings, Robert, Steven and Raymond (Catherine). He served in the Navy for 26 years as a marine engineer, retiring in 1980 and then continued to work for DND as a civilian. Don was very honored to have served as a volunteer for 35 years for Halifax Search and Rescue. He was a man of few words. However "the thing is see" he will be remembered by many for his ability to engage in a broad range of topics and his willingness to chat with others. The family would like to thank the medical team at Dartmouth General Hospital who provided such great care. A celebration of Don's life will be announced at a later date.
