In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SPERGEL, Gordon Dean - P. Eng, Capt, RCN. Peacefully, at the Civic Hospital on May 30, 2022 at the age of 97. Loving and devoted husband of the love of his life, Laura (Bolter) (predeceased), for 68 years. He leaves behind his family whom he adored: Alan (Julie) Spergel, Brian (Kippy) Spergel, Brenda (Ray) Ryan, and Mark (Marla) Spergel. Cherished grandfather of Gillian (Jordan), Andrew (Eryn), Jaz (Sophie), Samantha (Carson), Evan, Tori, Matt (Ashley); and great-grandfather ("Super Grandpa") of Carter, Aaron, Perry, Toby, and Joey. Predeceased by his parents, John and Sarah; his brother, Robert; and his sisters, Mildred and Ruth. Gordon will be sadly missed and remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care he received over the past 8 years at Carlingwood Retirement Community. A special thanks to the support given by Dr. Edirisinghe and Dr. Spilg. Tina, your kindness and constant help as Dad's caregiver and his friend will be remembered forever. The Funeral was held on Wednesday, June 1, at 2:30 p.m. at Jewish Memorial Gardens - Osgoode Cemetery, 6549 Herberts Corners Road, Greely, ON. Shiva was held in Ottawa at 458 Tillbury Ave. W. on Wednesday, June 1 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and will continue in Toronto at 229 Maxwell Street on Thursday, June 2, from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. and Friday, June 3, from 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathies, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders, Ottawa Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
