In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HARRIS, Albert Stanley - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear father Albert Stanley Harris Jr. Stan leaves behind his daughters Zoe (Michael) McCrystal, Leslie (John) Dart, Cori (Brent) MacPherson and Tanya (Bob) MacNeill. Stan has ten grandchildren: Jennifer, Keziah, Morgan, Tamara, Jacob, Kyle, Megan, Clayton, Lucas and Samantha. He also has sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is predeceased by the love of his life Pauline Harris (Wilson), his father Albert Stanley (Kelly) Harris, mother Mary (Lumley) Hall, and four brothers Edgar (Greta), Les (Doreen), Dick (Germaine), and Reg (Ione). At 98, Stan is also predeceased by many others in the Harris/Roland/Lumley and Wilson clans. Dad spoke often of his grandmother, Matilda Naukana Harris Roland, as she played a great part in the raising of him and his brothers. He loved her dearly. Stan was born at Isabella Point, Salt Spring Island. He was in the navy and served in the Second World War. Stan started fishing the coast as a very young man. It was on one of these trips that he met his wife to be, Pauline Wilson at Sunnyside Cannery. When his youngest daughter was born, Stan decided he had enough of being away, quit fishing and went to work for Delta Parks & Recreation. He was one of the first employees hired in that department. He enjoyed his work very much and we liked to hear his tales of the work he and his co-workers put in, making our town and other parts of Delta a more enjoyable and prettier place to live. He was particularly proud of the many sports fields that he helped build. He also worked as a carpenter, which included working with the team that built the shopping center that houses our Thrift Store and the iconic Delta Bakery. Stan and Pauline raised their family in Canoe Pass in our little dike house where Pauline was born. The family moved when the Fraser River flooded in 1982. They moved EAST, up the road and around the corner to 34th St., not even a mile away. EAST is the joke we made when family members moved from Canoe Pass closer to Ladner. Our hearts are broken.
