ARSENAULT, Joseph Augustine (Gus) - 73; of Halifax - passed away at the New Infirmary Site, QEII. World War II and Korean Conflict serving with the Canadian Navy; he served for 30 years and retired in 1971 as Master Warrant Officer.
After retiring fro the Navy he went to work for Modern Building Cleaners as a Supervisor, retiring at 65 years.
Husband of Lorraine (McNarama) Ferguson Arsenault. Father of Rodney of Upper Sackville and Kevin of Eastern Passage. Father-in-law of Leona and Christine "Tina". Step-Father of Daniel of Halifax and Karen of Lower Sackville. Grandfather of three, step-grandfather of four, and step-great-grandfather of two.
Brother of Irene of Charlottetown, Evelyn of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Mary of Jeddore, and Lorne of Saskatoon. Brother-in-law of Vincent K., Len, and Vincent D.
Predeceased by his first wife Edith Pearl (Skinners) Arsenault; they were married for 33 years. Also predeceased by his parents Joseph and Rose (Doucett) Arsenault, and his brother Manual "Mang" Arsenault.
Gus' remains were cremated followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. (The Chronicle Herald 10 Dec 1998)
ARSENAULT, Joseph Augustine (Gus) - 73, Halifax, died December 8, 1998, in the New Infirmary, QEII.
Born in Charlottetown, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rose (Doucett) Arsenault.
He joined the Canadian Navy at an early age and set off to serve in the Second World War and the Korean Conflict, receiving many medals for dedicated service after his war career.
He re-enlisted in the navy, serving 30 years, retiring in 1971 with the rank of master warrant officer.
He was employed with Modern Building Cleaners as a supervisor until his retirement at age of 65.
He was life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Chief's and Petty Officer's Mess.
Those who knew Gus during his military and civilian careers, and in social gatherings remember him as a person who befriended everyone. He will be sadly missed.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lorraine (McNarama) Ferguson; sons, Rodney and wife Leona, Upper Sackville; Kevin and wife Christine (Tina), Eastern Passage; stepson, Daniel Ferguson and wife Joane, Halifax; stepdaughter, Karen (Mrs. David Faulkner), Lower Sackville; sisters, Irene (Mrs. Vincent King), Charlottetown; Evelyn (Mrs. Len Fretts), Medicine Hat, Alta.; Mary (Mrs. Vincent Darrach), Jeddore; brother, Lorne, Saskatoon; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 33 years, the former Edith Pearl Skinner; brother, Manual (Maug).
Cremation has taken place and the family will receive visitors 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2033 Robie St., where a legion service will be held 7 p.m. Friday.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Halifax, Rev. Owen Connelly officiating. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
