Gerald Elmer Bronson

Died: 10 Jun 1922, Lakefield, Ontario

 

BRONSON, Gerald Elmer - Peacefully on at Extendicare Lakefield on Friday, June 10, 2022, in his 103rd year. Survived by his daughter Margaret Hamilton (Lorne) and his son Dennis Bronson (Bette). Grandfather to Marlo Gaddis (Chris), Lindsay Kruse (Kevin), Kelly Bronson (Nate Harron), Caleb Kimball, Gerob Kimball (Samantha), Amanda Bronson (Greg Clancy), and Matthew Bronson. Great-grandfather to Mason, Maggie, Annette, Delilah, Oscar, Sam, Iza, and Jarek. Predeceased by his father Daniel Norman Bronson, mother Christena Adeline (Stringer), his beloved wife, Catherine Mary (Kaye) Bronson (Pyche), his brother Daniel Elwood (Mildred), his sisters Dora Rae (James), Eleanor Baxer (John), Pauline Hartshorn (Eric), his daughter Geraldine (Kimball) and his son Doug Bronson. In 1940, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and achieved the rank of Chief Coxswain. He returned home to Peterborough in 1945 when the war ended. He then spent 36 and a half years employed by the Peterborough Utilities Commission prior to his retirement. He was on the council for several years for North Monaghan township and often volunteered to help in doing electrical work for various people and businesses. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and for some time belonged to the Birch Lake Hunting Camp. He also loved other sports, but especially hockey and his Ottawa Senators. He was also a dedicated Peterborough Pete's fan. Interment will take place on June 27th for family members only prior to the funeral service. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. at Ashburnham Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to these two charities which were important to Gerald: Hope Valley Day Camp, Peterborough and Hope Grows Haiti, Peterborough. The Alzheimer's Society of Peterborough may also be considered. Gerald's family would like to thank the management and staff of Extendicare Lakefield for the excellent care the almost 10 years he was a resident.
