MAURO, Earl Orlando - is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Earl Mauro at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, January 21, 2002, following a brief illness at the age of 79 years. Earl will forever be remembered and missed by his beloved wife Doris, daughter Judy Mauro (Denis) step-daughter Janice (Bill) Kane whom he lived with the past 1 years in St. Andrews, MB; grandchildren, Broderick (Crystal) Mauro of Regina, SK; Karin Nowak, Winnipeg; and David Nowak, St. Andrews; great-granddaughter Makayla Mauro, Regina, SK; sister-in-law Beatrice Mauro of Sault Ste. Marie, ON and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. His parents, Joseph and Sophia; brothers, Albert and Trent; sister and brother-in-law Argentina and Gino Biocchi; sister-in-law Rose Mauro; niece Diane Parr and great nephew Richard Piazza predeceased him. Earl was born August 4, 1922 in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. He entered active duty in 1942 and proudly served his country for 25 years, retiring from the Navy in 1967 achieving rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He went on to work for the Manitoba Centennial Concert Hall as Chief of Security for 20 years, retiring in 1987. Earl remained active following his military retirement for 12 years in the Navy Reserve HMCS CHIPPAWA. He was President of Navy League Cadets for 10 years; member of Uganda Naval Association; life member of Chief and Petty Officers Association of Victoria; three years (1975 to 1977) as President, Chief and Petty Officers Mess HMCS CHIPPAWA; life member of Unit Patrol of the Khartum Temple; and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 141. Throughout his lifetime, Earl was actively involved in numerous charitable organizations and volunteer services for which he received honourable recognition. Earl and Doris married in 1974 and together they enjoyed numerous trips, weekends at "Mauros Anchor" in Winnipeg Beach and many memorable times with their family and dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation, 2300 McPhillips St., Winnipeg, R2V 3M3, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 252 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3B 2H8. The family wishes to thank all the staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital, 5th floor U6, U5 and U2 along with the staff of Health Sciences Centre GA3, GA4 and the Dialysis Unit for their excellent care and compassion during a very difficult time.
