PURDY, Clifford Irwin, Coder, V57602, RCNVR, DOW - 13 Apr 1945, HMCS STRATHADAM - Son of Norman Adam and Florence Jane Purdy, of Vancouver, British Columbia.

 

Coder Purdy died of his wounds suffered on April 11, 1945 when a premature Hedgehog explosion on board the frigate HMCS STRATHADAM during an attack on a suspected submarine. He is buried in the Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

 

Coder Clifford Irwin Purdy is one of three brothers in the service. His brother, WO1 Russell F. Purdy, R.C.A.F. has been a prisoner of war in Germany since October, 1943, and a second brother, Pte. Harold L. Purdy, has just arrived overseas with the Army. Clifford Purdy was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, and worked there in the CNR freight office. He enlisted on March 24, 1943 and has been on sea duty since last November. He also served on the Canadian corvette HMCS ORKNEY before been transferred to HMCS STRATHADAM.
