Died: 24 Mar 1994 Victoria, British Columbia

 

ANDREWS, Alfred John - Born February 4, 1918, Calgary, Alberta. Passed away at home amongst his family and loved ones, Thursday, March 24, 1994, at the age of 76. Alf is lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews in Calgary and Victoria; grandchildren, Angela, Dan, Jennifer, Tessie, Luke and Katy and stepchildren (Garry) Pam, Cindy, Tim and Doug. Alf joined the Navy in 1936 and served for 27 years. Alf was a member of Haida Association and Chiefs & P.O.'s Association. Alf spent 7 years as Security Commissionaire at Victoria Airport. Alf was the Animal Control Officer for Central Saanich and champion for all creatures large and small in Brentwood ever since. Alf requested no service and in lieu of flowers, he wished donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice Society, 1900 Fort Street, Victoria, B.C. V8R 1J8. Special thanks to Dr. Morton, the P.R.T. teams, helping Hands health Care - Gert and Home Care Nurses.

 

Citation for Mentioned in Despatches:  ANDREWS, Alfred John, Yeoman of Signals, 2496, Mention in Despatches, RCN - Awarded as per Canada Gazette of 20 Jan 1945 and London Gazette of 29 Augt 1944.  "For outstanding courage, skill and devotion to duty in H.M. Ships Tartar, Ashanti, Eskimo, Javelin, and H.M. Canadian Ships Haida and Huron in action with German destroyers."
