STONE, George Alfred - Born January 11, 1921 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. On Monday, October 22, 2007, George Alfred Stone passed away at the age of 86 years. Forever remembered and loved by Helen Genevieve Stone, his wife of 62 years. Loving father of George Ronald, Sharon Ann, Helen Elaine, Kevin Patrick, Brian Francis and Mary Elizabeth. Loving grandfather of Ron, Jason, Courtney, Caitlin, Victoria, Shannon, Brandon and Ian and great-grandfather of Sasha.
In 1939 he began a distinguished 27-year career in the Royal Canadian Navy, beginning as an Ordinary Seaman Stoker and retiring as a Lieutenant in 1968. During his career he served on numerous vessels, including HMCS SAGUENAY, HMCS RESTIGOUCHE, HMCS HAIDA, HMCS QU'APPELLE, HMCS SACKVILLE, HMCS CAP DE LA MADELEINE, HMCS MAGNIFICENT, HMCS LA HULLOISE and HMCS BONAVENTURE.
He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He was honoured with these medals for his service: the 1939-45 Star, the Atlantic Star, the France and Germany Clasp, the Africa Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the War Medal 1939-45, the Korea Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Canadian Forces' Decoration and Clasp.
After serving in the military, he became a comptroller for Cadillac Fairview and a tax auditor for the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada. He has been living with his wife and family in Ottawa since 1964.
Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 2370 St. Joseph Blvd., Orleans on Wednesday, October 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service Thursday in the Chapel at 11 a.m. In Memoriam donations to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario appreciated.
