Book of Remembrance

TURETZEK, George Michael Alphonse - 58 Courageous, funny, strong, positive; these words all describe the wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend that passed away September 21st, 2011. George Turetzek was born in London, Ontario in March of 1953. He was the son of the late Wilma Turetzek. George is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Mary (Robicheau) Turetzek, his daughters Erin (Patrick) Mbugua, Megan (Adam) Turetzek-Windsor and Heather Turetzek. George spent the last three years of his life enjoying being a grandfather to Grace Mbugua. George is also survived by his brother Don Howe (Squamish, BC), father and mother-in-law Dick and Marie Robicheau (Margaretville, NS) and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Chief Petty Officer Second Class George Turetzek joined the military in August 1972. He met Mary when he was 24, and they were married in 1977. George was very dedicated to his work as a Naval Electronics Technician. He served with pride for 39 years, (often trying to recruit his daughters!). A highlight of his career was being honoured by Princess Anne for his work during the Gulf War. George never passed up the opportunity to live life to fullest, despite his fight with cancer for the past six years. He loved spending time with his family, bowling, golf, playing bridge, renovating his house and playing with Grace. Not one person could convince him to slow down! He was very involved in the Dartmouth Ham Radio Club for over 30 years, South Woodside Community Center and First Baptist Church. George will be remembered by his overwhelming positive attitude and unwavering faith. He was an inspiration to many and will be forever loved and forever missed. The family would like to thank everyone who provided outstanding healthcare and support to George and the entire family. Your love and kindness has been very comforting to us throughout this journey. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 25 at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 2pm-4pm. (217 Portland Street, Dartmouth). Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, September 27 at First Baptist Church, 2pm (100 Ochterloney Street, Dartmouth). Rev. Martin Zwicker officiating. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Dartmouth or Victoria Vale Baptist Church or Charity of your choice.
