DAVIDSON, Edward William (Ted) - It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Ted Davidson on February 18, 2009 at the age of 84. Ted passed away peacefully at home with family at his side. Edna, his beloved wife of 46 years, predeceased Ted in 1993. Ted was also predeceased by his brother Tom in 2008. Ted is survived by his loving wife Joan, whom he married in June 1994. Left to cherish his memory are children: Darlene Perry (John), Barbara Hewitt (John), Wayne Davidson (Lynn), Audrey Mason (Keith), Gordon Hatcher and Robert Hatcher. Poppa will be greatly missed by his much loved grandchildren: Cynthia Perry, Michelle Valentine (Dave), Nicole Kull (Brandon), Denise O'Brien (Mike), Scott Chaske, Alana, Dylan and Kara Hatcher. Ted was especially proud of his great-grandchildren Aislyn Kull (Izzy), and twins Henry and Liam Valentine (my boys!). His canine family Alex, Brandy, Sheena, Tex, Ranger, and Dilby will all miss his love and affection. Ted is also survived by his sister Margaret and numerous nieces and nephews. Also left behind is a large extended family and many dear friends. Born July 16, 1924 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to William and Dorothy Davidson, he was raised in Kamsack, Saskatchewan and moved to Transcona in 1941. There he joined the CN Transcona Shops as a machinist apprentice. In 1943 Ted joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served overseas in the Second World War, receiving his discharge in 1946. He returned to Transcona and resumed his career with the CNR. After many years of service, Ted retired in April of 1982. Curling was an activity Ted enjoyed for over fifty years in Transcona and surrounding areas. For many years he was involved in the Pirates Community Club volunteering his time and talents for various programs. Ted enjoyed year-round activities at the cottage he built at Ottermere, Ontario during the early 1950s. It was here that he loved to spend time with family and friends fishing, swimming, boating, hiking in the bush, blueberry picking, snowmobiling, and hunting. The Ottermere community will greatly miss his kind and helpful presence. Travel with Joan was a special delight. They travelled across Canada by train, bus, plane, and car enabling them to visit friends and family far and wide. Their two trips to Alaska introduced them to the joy of cruising. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. February 24, 2009 at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West, Transcona, with Revs. Jeff Cook and Carol Fletcher officiating. Interment to follow in the Transcona Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to Transcona Memorial United Church or to a charity of your choice.
