In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MCLAREN Lawrence Lauchlin (Larry) - born December 31, 1934 in Okotoks, Alberta passed away peacefully October 25, 2004 at the Cowichan District Hospital with his family all around him. He fought a long hard battle with lung and heart problems. His courage and determination were remarkable. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 28 years Suzanne, and their blended family of 10 children, Michael (Val), Laurie Boyles, Heather, Brent, Gordon (Sue), Tina (Tom), Russel Mitton (Wendy), Colleen Mitton (Rick), Jackie (Darsh) Dhut, Dan (Pam) Mitton. There are many grandchildren and great grand children, cousins, nieces and nephews left to miss grandpa. Larry is also survived by his brother Malcolm and his first wife Betty. Larry spent his first career of 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy and his second at Crofton Pulp Mill for 20 years. In his retirement Larry and his wife had some very special times enjoying the summers with family and traveling to their favorite place in Nevada wandering the highways of the country. Larry loved his life and spent time researching family history, playing with eBay and making sure the pool and yard were always ready for company which he loved to have.He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. The last few years he had many stays in the ICU unit at our hospital, so much so that the nurses on the ward became quite a part of our life. For their care and compassion we are truly grateful. Also toDr. Bass who continually was in awe of Larry's ability to bounce back. It was Dr. Bass who never gave up. A Remembrance Celebration will be held on Friday, October 29, 2004 at the Quamichan Inn at 1:00 p.m., 1478 Maple Bay Road, Duncan, BC. Anopen House will follow for those who wish to spend extra time with the family at home 6362 Woodgrove Way. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Larry's memory to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation. (The Victoria Times Colonist 27 Oct 2004)
