McDONNELL, Robert Finlay (Bob) (Fantabulous Finlay) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, "Fantabulous Finlay". Bob was born into a large family, in Landenburg, SK, and then spent many years on the family farm in Keliher, SK, developing his tireless work ethic. In his youth he worked on the docks in Churchill, MB. This was followed by joining the R.C.N. where he served two tours of duty in Korea. Bob continued to serve for another 25 years, attaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. After he retired from military life, he worked at Yarrows Shipyard until his 2nd retirement in 1985. It was at this time that Bob and his wife Sheila, spent many happy years traveling in their "Prairie Schooner" across North America and showing their beloved herd of Bearded Collies. He enjoyed 20 productive years of retirement; cultivating a breathtaking landscape of Rhodos" and Azaleas at his Cobble Hill home. Left to mourn Bob's passing are his wife of 51 years, Sheila, daughter Katherine (Gordon), three sons, Robert (Maria), Bruce (Cai), Daniel (Carolin). Four grandchildren, Chris (Jana), Sara (Richard), Rob, and Tannis. Two great grandchildren, Tianna, and Taylor. Two sisters, Janet and Flora, and one brother Don. The family also wishes to express their sincere thanks to Lisa Young for all of her dedicated caring and support of Bob and Sheila in recent years. Also missing him are his loyal canine companions, Shadow and Traveler. As a faithful member of his local Legion, Bob also leaves many good friends and military companions to remember him. Service to be held at Sylvan United Church, 985 Shawnigan Mill Bay Rd., Mill Bay, BC, at 1pm, on June 10th, 2006. A reception to follow service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Arthritis Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. P.S. This is how we did it in South Saskatchewan." (The Victoria Times Colonist 02 Jun 2006)
