UHRICH, George William - Peacefully, on May 21, 2003, after a long and healthy life, George Uhrich passed away at the Concordia Hospital, at age 91 years. George Uhrich lived in Transcona most of his life. Born in Elmwood in 1912, George moved to Transcona as a child, and is now the eldest resident of the area. He is survived by his sister Leona (Lloyd) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mary (Eric), Rose (Tom), Lily (Alec) and brother Wilfred (Bernice) and also by his parents, George and Mary. George was employed at the CNR Shops for 39 years. He had been an avid golfer, joining the Transcona Golf Club in 1934 and golfed there ever since. He served on the Executive of the Golf Club for many years and was given a life membership in the Transcona Golf Club and the CNR Supervisors Association. He also served on the Club 65 Senior Curlers, after he had retired. George served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 7 in Transcona. A Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, May 26, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Kildare West and Madeline, with Pastor Dan Abraham officiating. Interment to follow in the Military Section, Transcona Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Scobel Open. Active pallbearers will be Georges nephews.
