In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
COX, Edgar Thomas - our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle passed peacefully in his sleep May 28, 2009 at age 86. Affectionately called Pop Dad had an infectious smile, a twinkle in his eye and a wonderful since of humor. He loved his wife Catherine (Kay) and devoted his life to her. Survived by four children Sheila Brisley, Linda (Don deceased) Fox, Carol (Terry) Brisley, Tom (Sharon) Cox; an extended family of ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. At age 15 Dad started his career with The Hudson's Bay Company (The Bay) in Winnipeg delivering parcels by bicycle. At 17 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve becoming Leading Torpedoman/Leading Seaman completing two tours of duty. After the war, Dad returned to work for The Bay as an electrician and retired after 47 years of service. He was a handyman with many skills and spent countless hours helping others. Dad's love of family was immeasurable. His last three years were dedicated to the care of his wife. Dad was happiest puttering, devising new tools to help mom, renovating bathrooms, rewiring homes and cottages, that was Pop! He loved sunsets at the beach, gladiolas, his garden, playing the organ, a good game of golf; he enjoyed it all in his own quiet way. Dad was a thinker, always planning, always teaching. The following poem was chosen by Dad. TO MY FAMILY: I go from you gently for it is my time, To take the next step in this journey of mine; Don't grieve for me long - I've not left you alone, For I will be with you In the love that we've known, That love is forever and some day when it's time You'll join me again on this journey of mine. Anonymous. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West on Wednesday June 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., reception to follow. Interment will take place at the Transcona Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. (The Winnipeg Free Press 01 Jun 2009)
