WOOD, Norman George - It is with great sadness, the family of Norman George Wood, CPO, RCN (Retd) announces his peaceful passing, with loved ones by his side, on Sunday, September 4, 2022, in the Abbie J. Lane, QEII Hospital, Halifax at the age of 87. Born February 21, 1935 to the late Roy Bradley Wood and Kathleen Wood (Semrick) in Portage La Prairie, MB. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ethel May (Hines), his children, Michael (Deborah), Enfield; Susan (Robert) Kidson, Wellington; Stephen, Wellington; Deborah (Jeffery) Leahy, Elmsdale; Andrew (Kim), Halifax; his grandchildren Jennifer Keeler (Kidson), Sarah Hartling (Leahy), Krista Leahy and great-grandchildren Noah, Samuel and Ivan; sisters Francis Blowatt, Marjorie Bobson, and Doreen Sears who reside in Western Canada. He was predeceased by his sister Beverly Donaghue, who also resided in Western Canada. A member of the Royal Canadian Navy for 26 years, he chose to take early retirement and later worked with the Commissionaires for several years at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. He enjoyed playing golf for many years and watching sports. He spent several years as an extra in the Royal Nova Scotia Tattoo as well as a member of the Chebucto Singers Choir which he greatly enjoyed. He was a long-time member of St. Paul’s United Church in Spryfield. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of the 9th floor Geriatric Unit at the Abby J. Lane Hospital for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. The service will be Monday September 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM in St. Paul’s United Church, 173 Old Sambro Rd, Halifax NS. with Rev. Helene Burns presiding. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
