VALLEE, Maurice Theodore - This gentleman's story extends over nine decades and his exciting life impacted family, friends, and the community. Maurice (Mauri) was born to Roch and Bertha, in Pembroke, Ontario. He married the talented Marguerite Clouthier in 1948 and thus began their love story of 74 years together. Their children, Gaye Bott, Jane Falconer (Tom), Gisele Vallee (Mike) and Anne Greatrex (Scott). Predeceased by daughter Leah Ledgley (Doug) and by infant children Paul, Frances and Simone, born out of this loving union. He will be dearly missed by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved deeply. He was a man of unwavering faith and spoke of the power of the Holy Spirit to guide us through our lives, in a way that enabled us to surrender to and honour the presence of God. His giving spirit was evident in the 28 years he gave to his career as the first Ontario Campaign Director for The Arthritis Society. His volunteers praised him at his retirement celebration, with stories of goodwill, and his encouragement to be champions in raising funds for this debilitating disease. They also spoke of his kindness and the importance he placed on them as individuals. He taught his family to do for others in daily living and always to follow up with a hug! He was a veteran of WWII (navy). In 1977, Mauri was the recipient of the Queen's Medal for Service to Mankind. Mauri was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus. He wanted everyone to know that any success he enjoyed was based on the tremendous love and support from Marguerite! His selfless love for his "girls" was evidenced in his immediate call to service for advice, physical assistance and yes, if needed, an array of gadgets from his cupboard of shopping "deals." Even his moments of impatience were used as a lesson illustrating that we are all only human but should never stop trying to be better people. He taught us to share, to be caring, thoughtful, fair, and to never give up. His enthusiasm was contagious and "carpe diem" was a hallmark quote of his, demonstrating his strong zest for life. We will miss your steadfast love and support as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, and community leader. Special thanks to Drs. Richard Kennel and Noumaan Khawaja and wonderful staff for their loving care over the years, and the special 7th floor medical staff at St. Mary's Hospital. Visitation at the Henry Walser Funeral Home 507 Frederick St, Kitchener, (519) 749-8467 will take place on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, October 6 at 1 p.m. in the chapel with reception to follow. As expressions of sympathy, and at Mauri's request, please consider donating to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation (Cardiac Care). As per the family's request, masks are encouraged. Till soon. We love you!  (The Waterloo Region Record 03 Oct 2022)
