Albert Howard Wilson

Wilson, Albert Howard - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Howard Wilson, 85, of Halifax on September 18, 2022 at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital, Halifax. Born in Tatamagouche on June 30,1937, Howard was the son of Isabel Ruth (Reese) and Wilfred Howard Wilson. He spent his childhood in Truro and Tatamagouche, and moved with his family to Montreal in the 1940's.

 

Following graduation from high school, Howard joined the Royal Canadian Navy as an electronics technician where he proudly served on both of Canada's aircraft carriers, HMCS BONAVENTURE and MAGNIFICENT. Following his honorable discharge after 5 years of service, he worked with Thales at Shearwater where he helped install Canada's first Sea King helicopter simulator. He continued his career at Robert L. Stanfield International Airport as Duty Manager of security and later as Marketing Manager where he oversaw the modernization of the airport.

 

Howard enjoyed many activities throughout his life including water polo, where he represented Nova Scotia in the augural Canada Games, swimming, and car rally events throughout NS. His greatest passion was sailing. He was a member of the Dartmouth Yacht Club and later the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. He also taught celestial navigation through the NS Power Squadron. Howard worked diligently for many years with the QEII Foundation where he chaired the CNIB Fundraising efforts. He was a long time Executive Committee member of the HMCS SACKVILLE, Canada’s Naval Memorial.

 

Besides his parents, Howard was predeceased by his first wife JoAnne (Conrad) Wilson in 2005.

 

He is survived by his wife Yvonne Wilson (nee Paris), brothers David (Cathy), Guelph, ON, and Wayne (Micheline Dube), Glen Robertson, ON, sister Diane (Brian) Rennie, Calgary, stepdaughter Janet (Tom) Barrett, Oromocto, NB. Also survived by step grandsons Ryan (Brettenea) and Zachary; nieces Susan Shaw, Janet Carter, Marlene Conrad, Dana Wilson, Stacy Wilson, Megan Hobbs and nephew Christian Wilson, as well as many other extended family members and friends.

 

Special thanks are extended to the doctors and staff of the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital, Halifax, for their care.

 

Celebration of Life will be held on October 18, 2022 at 10am at Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Private family interment will follow.
