In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HARVEY, David Harry - It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our courageous father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many, Dave Harvey. Dave passed away at the age of 81 with his children by his side. Predeceased by his wife of 56 years Coby (nee Baarda), his brother Billy and his parents Ralph and Doreen Harvey.-Rosenthal (nee Chase). He will be deeply missed by his 3 children, Charmaine (& Scott), Keith (& Lorna), Faron (& Vicki), sister Judy (Jim) Attwood, stepsister Sheri, stepbrother Bruce, grandchildren Jordan (& Katelyn), Tyler (& Keva), Braydon (& Dariel), Hannah (& Adam), Grace and Duncan, great-grandchildren Hadley, Victoria and Walker. Dave was born in the Kings Daughters Hospital of Duncan, BC and spent his childhood years in Yap Alley, Youbou BC. He met the love of his life in a strawberry field in Saanichton, Victoria BC where Coby had fainted and he carried her to the shade to recover. At the young age of 18 he joined the Royal Canadian Navy as Leading Seaman Cook. In 1965 he was posted to Masset in the Queen Charlotte Islands - Haida Gwaii, and moved his young family there. Only a few years later he could not resist the lure of the fishing industry anymore and left the Navy. In 1971 he sustained a life altering head injury on the commercial fish boat he was working. The family returned to Victoria in 1973 to be surrounded with a large extended family of support. Dave's industrious abilities allowed him to create multiple employment situations to support his family, until he again was drawn to the ocean he loved so much. He purchased his own commercial fish boat the " Alco III" on which he worked incredibly hard, off the west coast of Vancouver Island, at times joined by his sons Keith and Faron, but most often alone. In 2001 Dave and Coby moved to Bowser, BC after retiring from fishing. Dave was now a full time "really good guy" as many neighbors and friends call him. Always willing to lend a hand and share some good coffee, conversation and humorous stories in between his long 10 km walks. He loved The Lord, he loved his family, he loved his music, and he loved the solitude of the forest and ocean. Dad you've left us an amazing legacy. Heaven gained one of the best. A true legend. A small celebration of Dave's life will be held on Sunday November 27, 2022 at 12:00pm in the Youbou Bowling Alley Hall - 8550 Hemlock St. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cowichan Brain Injury Society or The Salvation Army.
