FEENER, Walter William - 75, 45 Kaulback Street, Lunenburg, died Monday, April 14, 1997, at home. Born in First Peninsula, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Harris and Gladys (Conrad) Feener. He started working at the age of 13 at Lunenburg Sea Products Ltd. after his father's death. He later worked in farming and forestry before fishing fulltime. While employed in the fishing industry, he was a cook and deckhand and an inshore fisherman. He retired in 1978 after fishing for 43 years. After retiring, he worked as a night watchman at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, Lunenburg and was also an avid woodworker.
During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Navy.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg. He is survived by his wife, the former Muriel Lohnes; son, Walter, Jr., at home; sister, Mary (Mrs. Ivan Allen), Garden Lots; sister-in-law, Pauline Lohnes, Lunenburg. He was predeceased by daughter, Judith Anne; brother, Roy. Visitation will be today fro m2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Douglas Moore officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg Fire Department, Fishermen's Memorial Hospital or any charity.
