ANDERSON, Maurice Fraser - died in Toronto on March 27, 2020, at the age of 95. He was predeceased by his wife, (Shirley) Aileen Anderson (née Johnston) in 2016. Maurice was born in London, England in 1924, son of the late Captain Walter Fraser Anderson, D.S.O., D.F.C. R.F.C./R.A.F. and Phyllis Anderson (née Joseph) and brother of John Fraser Anderson, 1923-2004. Maurice is survived by his children, Susan Ainley (William Ainley), Wendy Anderson, Michael Fraser Anderson and Alexandra Anderson (Matthew Warszawski); his grandchildren, Samantha Lazier (Trevor Parekh), Monica de la Villardière (Marc), Emma Stern (Mike), James Anderson (Amy Scott), Harry Ainley, Emily Anderson, Vivian Anderson Warszawksi and Sophie Anderson Warszawski; and great-grandchild, Josephine Parekh. (Since his death, Charlotte Parekh, Annabel Stern, as well as Mia and Arthur de la Villardière have also joined the ranks of his great-grandchildren.) Maurice is also survived by his half-sister, Shelagh Haynes and half-brother, James Florence, both of South Africa. Upon the death of their father in 1936, John and Maurice travelled to Canada to live with their beloved Uncle Tom (Thomas Ince) and Aunt Mab (Marjory Hamilton Horrocks) Anderson. Maurice joined the Robert Simpson Company and then took a military leave to join the Royal Canadian Navy, attaining the rank of Lieutenant (RCNVR) while serving in the North Atlantic and the Pacific. Maurice returned to Simpsons as a Management Trainee, focusing on the application of systems in retail operations. He completed his 46-year career as the Vice-President of Information Systems at SEARS Canada. He met Aileen, another trainee in the program, and they were married December 27, 1950, at First Saint Andrews Church in London, Ontario. Maurice believed in contributing to his community, and was very active, serving as President of the Victorian Order of Nurses of Canada, President of the Dellcrest Children's Centre, a Governor at Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall, an Honorary Trustee of the Royal Ontario Museum, a Board Member of the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy and an Executive in Residence at the Queen's University School of Business. Maurice and Aileen were very involved in fundraising for The Canadian Opera Company and The National Ballet of Canada, and they were enthusiastic members of the Healey Lake Association. Maurice and Aileen were active members at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club and at Caledon Ski Club, enjoying sailing and skiing adventures in Canada and abroad. Maurice was a long-time member of the Albany Club and the Naval Officers' Association of Canada. Many thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers of the Veteran's Centre at Sunnybrook. Appreciation to Willie Mendoza, Rea Fe and especially Evelyn Duldulao, who took great care of our mother and our father. Our parents also appreciated and enjoyed the kind staff at The Dunfield Retirement Residence. No arrangements were made at the time of Maurice's death, due to Covid-19. The family is pleased to announce that Maurice's memorial will take place on Saturday, November 12th at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Peter and St. Simon-the-Apostle at 525 Bloor Street East. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, 141 St. George Street.
