They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
KILLAM, David Allison, Lt, RCNVR, MPK - 03 Jul 1944, MTB-460 - Son of Lawrence and Edith (nee Humphrey) Killam, of Vancouver, British Columbia. Brother of Kim, Margaret, Lol and Ralph Killam. Husband of Elizabeth K. Killam, of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Lieutenant D. A. Killam was reported missing, presumed killed when his boat HMC MTB 460 (motor torpedo boat) was lost. He was last seen clinging to a gas tank bobbing in the English Channel while other members of his crew were being picked up by another MTB. Despite a 90 minute search by the MTB the rescues saw no further glimpse of Lieutenant Killam or of the eight other men listed as missing as a result of the explosion.
The province of British Columbia honoured Flight Sergeant Killam by naming Mount Killam, north of West Bay on Gambier Island, Howe Sound, New Westminster Land District.
Citation for Award of DSC: KILLAM, David Allison, Sub-Lieutenant, Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) - Awarded as per London Gazette of 2 August 1940. "For courage and resource in withdrawal of troops in neighbourhood of Le Havre."
