In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
COWNDEN, Arthur Anthony - in Victoria General Hospital, Monday, July 23, 1990.
He will be deeply mourned by his loving wife, Lucille and family; his daughters, Mrs. Lucille Fagan and Mrs. Connie McKenzie and sons, Adrian, Shaun, Bruce, David, Martin, Brian, Michael, Kevin and daughter, Yvonne; their husbands, wives and 24 grandchildren.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents, Arthur A., and Ellen Cownden and his brothers, Albert and Vincent and survived by his sister Mrs. Frances Holly, of Nanaimo and brothers, Walter and Maurice, of Victoria.
He was a native son born in Esquimalt in 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1940 and re-enlisted following the Second World War. He served in several of Her Majesty's ships, notably the PRINCE ROBERT and the destroyer, SIOUX, the latter during the Korean conflict.
Following retirement, he spent several years with Island Tug and Barge and Seaspan International.
Arthur was an active member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He will be sadly missed by us all.
Prayers for the repose of his soul will be held Wednesday, July 25, at 7:00 p.m. in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson at Vancouver Streets.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 26, at 12:10 noon at St. Patrick's Church, 2060 Haultain street, with Monsignor P. Hanley celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Open Heart Society of B.C., P.O. Box 3124, Postal Station "A", Victoria, B.C. V8X 3X4 would be appreciated.
