John Stuart - died peacefully in his sleep at North York General
Hospital November 23, 2011, surrounded by members of his family.
Stuart was born in Toronto April 20, 1917. He graduated with his B.A. from
Trinity College, University of Toronto in 1939, and received his M.A. in
Public Administration in 1941. Joining the RCNVR in 1942, he rose to the
rank of Lieutenant and C.O. of a Fairmile, the ML109. He met the love of his
life, Elaine McLeod, while on patrol in Bermuda. They were married there in
1945 and enjoyed 62 years of wedded bliss until her passing in 2007. They
are survived by four children, Katherine (Fred d. 9/2/11), Barbara (Rick),
John (Jane) and Kenneth (Massi). They were the proud grandparents of ten
grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Stuart
Stephen spent his working life as an Ontario Public Servant - first as Civil
Service Commission Executive Director of Personnel until 1964 and then as
Assistant Deputy Minister of Education until his retirement in 1976. He was
active in public administration organizations throughout his working life.
In addition, he was a singing member of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir for 42
years, serving on the Board of Directors for 45 years and as President
1980-1984.
Friends may call at Trull 'North Toronto' Funeral Home and Cremation Centre,
2704 Yonge St., Toronto, (5 blocks south of Lawrence Ave.), on Wednesday,
December 28 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of his memorial Service in the
chapel at 11:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place. If desired, in memoriam

brother, Lt Gordon Stephen, RCNVR, died when his
ship, HMCS TRENTONIAN, was torpedoed on 22 Feb 1945 by U-1004. John
was serving in ML Q109 at the time of his brother's death. Ships
