In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MACKINTOSH, David (Dave) - passed away peacefully on November 4th, 2022, the date of his choosing, at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Victoria, British Columbia, to LCdr James Francis (Frank) and Marion Mackintosh (Hirtle), Dave was a member of a large military family who relocated to Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Dave is survived by brothers and sisters Bruce, Trudy, Patsy (Alex) MacInnis, Mary Morrison, Bobby, Mike, Gage (Eileen) and Brenda (Fraser) Munro, sisters-in-law Marilyn, Patsy and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Frank, Kay Collacut, Lorraine (Lolly) Hogg, Russell, sisters-in-law Venita, Mary-Kay and nephews Kelly and Dougie.
Dave was a very proud father of his two sons Todd (Michelle) and Brian (Sherri) and was a devoted grandfather. Dave always had time for his boys and would spend as much time as he could with his grandchildren at school, theater, sports events, and walking in the park.
Dave served as a member of both the Royal Canadian Navy and Royal Canadian Air Force, he enlisted in September 1958 and was discharged in November 1981. He continued to serve as a civilian with the Department of National Defence working at CFB Dockyard until his retirement.
A lover of the open road, Dave enjoyed driving, criss-crossing both Canada and the US many times to visit family, friends and to take in the sites. He also loved to dance and could jive with the best of them! Enjoying food and coffee was a big part of Dave’s life whether it was a scoop (or two!) of ice cream or a coffee with the boys. A lifelong Boston Bruins fan, he had a special place in his heart for Gordie Howe and other local hockey legends.
A special thanks to the team at the Dartmouth General Hospital (Dr. Hunter) and the MAID Program (Dr. Mercer) who provided comfort and relief to David at a most difficult time.
A celebration of life is planned from 6:30 to 9:00PM, on 11 November 2022, at the Dartmouth Funeral Home. The event will be an informal social gathering of friends and family to share memories of David. Light refreshments will be served. Please note parking is available in the parking lot across the street where visitors may park and let the parking attendant in the little yellow hut know you are attending the celebration of life.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service, as per David’s wishes. David’s ashes will be spread by his sons and grandchildren at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Dartmouth Funeral Home.
No flowers please. Donations can be made to the Hospice Halifax, Canadian Diabetes Association, food bank or homeless shelter.
