They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
LAIRD, Wilson James - Enlisted in the RCN as a Boy Seaman on 01 Mar 1937 and served at HMCS NADEN (RCN BARRACKS ESQUIMALT). According to his service file his parents did not approve of this decision and actively encouraged him to leave the name and wrote letters to his commander and Ottawa to have him discharge. Wilson Laird was discharge from the RCN on 03 Jul 1937. Letters in his file indicate he would make a good sailor if he was not being undermined and encourage to leave.
Apparently not discourage by his brief foray in the Navy, on 23 Sep 1939 he enlisted in the Winnipeg Grenadiers (M.G.) C.A.S.F. He was transferred to the South Saskatchewan Regiment and was Killed in Action on 23 Oct 1944 in France / Holland.
