They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
NEWBIGGING, William Ivan, AB, V65926, RCNVR, killed - 14 Feb 1945, 29th MTB FLOTILLA - Son of William A. and Olive M. Newbigging, of Toronto, Ontario.
Able Seaman Newbigging was killed in an accidental and resulting explosion that destroyed nuerous MTBs in harbour at Ostend, Belgium.
Able Seaman Newbigging, 19, a police cadet before enlisting in July 1943, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Newbigging, Winnett Ave. He was a Star Weekly carrier in Vaughan Rd. district. He had been overseas since last August, serving as an AA gunner on a Canadian M.T. boat. Born in Toronto, he attended Humewood Public School and Vaughan Collegiate, and is a Baptist. Besides his parents, he has a brother, Ross, and a sister, Lois.
