McRAE, Harry Smith, ERA 4c, V9884, RCNVR, MPK 05 Nov 1940, HMS JERVIS BAY - Son of William and Mary McRae; husband of Dorothy Winnifred McRae, of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Harry Smith McRae of the R.C.N.V.R. was born near Banff, Scotland. He formerly resided at 961 Garfield St., Winnipeg, Man., and joined the Navy on June 15, 1940, in Winnipeg. He married Dorothy Young in 1920, by whom he is survived, together with one son, Harry, who is in the R.C.A.F., and two daughters. E.R.A. McRae was serving on His Majesty's ship, Jervis Bay, which was lost by enemy action in November, 1940. The story of the gallantry of offices and crew of the armed merchant cruiser is known throughout the world. He was one of twenty-one Canadians serving aboard this ship.
