APPLEYARD, Richard Alan, OS, 5734-H, RCN, killed - 16 Jul 1947, HMCS MICMAC - Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Appleyard, of Hamilton, Ontario.
Fatally hurt in the collision of the RCN destroyer Micmac in Halifax harbour yesterday, Able Seaman Richard Allan Appleyard of 13 Jarvis Street enlisted in the navy 18 months ago on completion of an electrical course at the F.R. Close Technical Institute. Son of John Appleyard, now of Detroit, the young sailor had attended Victoria Avenue Public School and was a member of the Church of St. Thomas. Surviving besides his father are three brothers, George, William and Joseph of Hamilton, two sisters, Mrs. Roy Fuller and Mrs. Virginia Johns of Hamilton, two step- brothers, Albert Appleyard of Hamilton and John Appleyard of St. Catharines, and four step sisters: Mrs. Mac Underhill of Hamilton, Mrs. Charles Yeust and Mrs. Harry Thompson of Detroit, and Mrs. Jean Dalton of Cooksville.
AB Appleyard is buried in the Woodland Cemetery, Hamilton, Ontario.
