Plan Service Sunday For Lost Navy Man

 

Memorial service will be held in First United Church Sunday for ABAW1 Peter Lancelot Ferguson who was lost at sea Nov. 24 while serving aboard HMCS Micmac off the coast of Cape Race, Newfoundland. The mishap occurred during a gale.

 

Able Seaman Ferguson, youngest son of Mr. And Mrs. George Ferguson, was born here and educated at Francis street school and the Vocational Institute. He joined HMCS Griffon in February of 1954 moving to HMCS Cornwallis for basic training. On completion he took a secretarial and supply school training course and transferred to HMCS Stadacona at Halifax. He joined HMCS Micmac in July last year. Prior to joining the navy he had worked with the CNR in the city as a check.

 

Sunday’s memorial services will be conducted by Rev. D.M. Burns, minister of the church. A similar service was held Monday evening at HMCS Griffon conducted by Rev. W.C. Mercer, chaplain. (The Fort William Times-Journal 06 Dec 1957 / Researched by Steve Hutchings)

 


 

Peter had 7 siblings.  One brother, George Ferguson was a Petty Officer at HMCS CORNWALLIS when Peter died.
