In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WAGG, Shantel - The family of Shantel Wagg are saddened to announce her passing on August 22, 2022, in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Shantel is survived by her brothers, Shawn Wagg, Sheldon Wagg, and Shane Wagg; daughter, Ishara Bailey; husband, Darren Schell; and mother-in-law, Ann Marie Wagg.
She is predeceased by her father, Robert “Bob” Wagg, whom she loved very much and her mother, Victoria Wagg, whom she did not.
Shantel was born in Calgary, AB. She grew up on Canadian Forces Bases in Germany and Cold Lake, AB. She loved to swim in her school years.
After graduation she joined the Canadian Armed Services and became a Bosin in the Navy.
After Ishara was born Shantel left the Service and became an admin assistant in Morinville for several years. She then moved to Fort McMurray to assist the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. While in Fort McMurray she played ball hockey. During this time, she also met and married Darren.
Shantel was the kind of person who would look out for people, especially if she thought of them as her people. During the 2016 fire in Fort McMurray she volunteered to return as logistics support to assist the firefighting teams. She was a fierce woman and did not suffer “crap from idiots” lightly.
Shantel had struggled with deep personal issues most of her life but had tried very hard to keep them from others. Perhaps too hard.
She did manage to work through the worst of it and was looking forward to a visit from her brother, Shane, as well as travelling to Europe with her husband.
She was a wonderful woman, a troubled Angel, and a friend to many. She will be missed greatly.
