WITNEY, Alfred Edward, OS, V14672, RCNVR, killed - 07 Dec 1941, HMCS WINDFLOWER - Son of Alfred Edward Witney and Florence Witney, of Vancouver, British Columbia.
OS Witney died when HMCS WINDFLOWER sunk after being rammed by a merchant ship in convoy. His body was recovered and buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, St. John's, Nfld. Prior to joining the RCNVR, Alfred Witney served for approx 4 months in the 2nd Battalion Irish Fusiliers, Vancouver Regiment, Non-Permanent Active Militia.
