OTTO, Harold Howard (Hank) - Known to everyone but his mother as "Hank" – died January 4, 2023 in Dartmouth. He was born July 27, 1928 a son of John Pius and Flora Dorothy (Conrad) Otto. He was a mechanical, marine engineer and naval architect educated at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia Technical College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On August 2, 1952 he married the love of his life, Eleanor Elizabeth “Betty” Griffith, they celebrated their 70th anniversary last summer. He served many years in the Royal Canadian Navy, including service with the original peacekeepers in Suez, as the Canadian Military Attaché in Iran, and finally as Captain of HMC Dockyard in Halifax. After retirement from the Navy he was employed in various engineering jobs including teaching at TUNS. He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Harold, Patricia, Alan, and Stephen, their respective spouses; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many friends. Predeceased by siblings, John, Elaine, James and David. He is loved and missed. A private service will be held in St. James United Church at a later date. No flowers by request.
